Welcome to the Korean Consulate General’s website.

      Consul General,
      Young-mok Kim

As of August 2010, I assumed the post of Consul General of the Republic of Korea in New York. I am honored to be working again in New York City, the global capital of cultural and economic activity. While I am familiar with New York, I look forward to having new experiences and opportunities in this vibrant city, especially in the area of promoting U.S.-Korea relations.

New York City is not only the international hub of economy, finance, and culture but it is the nexus of multicultural affairs. In this respect, I believe New York will serve as a promising platform to elevate the image, identity, and issues of the Republic of Korea and the Korean-American community.

I will begin by focusing my efforts and attention on the positive development of the Korean community, with particular attention to our 2nd and 3rd generations. By spearheading activities for the Korean-American community and fostering more connectivity, we can ensure the advancement for all Koreans.

On a local level, I plan to provide more efficient visa and passport services, ensuring that all individuals will have prompt responses to their inquiries and requests.  On an international level, I will prepare for the upcoming 2012 National Election and ensure that Korean citizens in our jurisdiction will be able to participate in this important process as well as focus on other issues regarding dual citizenship.

In regards to economic issues, I hope to promote the successful passage of the Free Trade Agreement between the U.S. and the Republic of Korea. I believe that the FTA will not only add another dimension to the U.S.-Korea alliance but it will have immense economic benefits for Koreans in the U.S. I will continue to generate interest in the FTA by connecting with political and business leaders to enhance greater awareness on the mutual benefits of the FTA.

On the cultural front, I will foster more appreciation and understanding of Korean culture, ultimately positioning New York City as a spring board for the Korean Wave. I offer my steadfast support to burgeoning Korean artists and will devote my efforts to attracting greater audiences who share a commitment to art and its appreciation.

Looking to the future, I hope to strengthen relations with the Korean community in New York and all communities as well as work closely with the organizations and leaders of this vibrant city. With our combined efforts, I am confident that we can create bridges of communication and cooperation.
